Buzport Would Like To Wish All Our German Friends A Happy Unity Day

by admin on October 3, 2011

October 3rd is German Unity Day. This day commemorates the day East and West came to together for the reunification of Germany in 1990. Prior to reunification, West Germany celebrated the Day of German Unity on 17th June, whereas East Germany celebrated the Day of the Republic on 7th October.

Today will see the Burgerfest, a citizen’s festival, held throughout Germany, as well as an annual ceremonial act. There are also numerous celebrations in the federal capital, Berlin. However, Germany differs in their celebrations from most other countries, as there is unlikely to be ceremonious flags on private houses, fireworks or military parades.

With that said – Unity Day will still see German citizens coming together to be with the ones they love to mark this wonderful occasion. If you are unable to attend this year, as you live abroad, this is the ideal time to call any friends or family you may have in Germany.
