What Is SIP
SIP is a modern protocol for voice and video communication over the internet. It’s extremely cheap and easy to install and manage.
SIP is an open-source protocol and is widely used by numerous developers and manufacturers of PC-based softphones (many are free), hardware SIP-enabled phone sets, SIP gateways for connecting SIP with conventional phone networks and SIP-enabled PBX systems for use in offices.
The best thing about SIP is that using it is entirely free. It can be used to make calls to destinations worldwide.
How Does It Work?
VoIP is a common term that used for transferring voice over the internet. SIP is an open-source protocol that uses VoIP to allow you to make calls using the internet. All you need is either a hardphone (phone boxes that are connected to the internet) or a softphone (applications on a computer that would allow you to communicate over the internet).
To know if a particular hard phone or softphone can be used for this service, look for, “supports SIP” under specifications. An example of a soft phone that is easily available is the X-Lite dialer ® Counterpath Technologies. There are several other similar programs which are also available online.
SIP Calls With Buzport
Buzport customers can use SIP to make cheap international calls from PC or SIP-enabled hardware phones to mobile phones, landlines or other internet-based phones. When SIP is used, the originating segment of the call is free and the customer only pays for connecting to the destination phone. To use SIP with Buzport you need a SIP-enabled hardware phone or PC-based SIP softphone.
After the initial funding of your Buzport account, every user is provided with an individual SIP number. You can find this under “My Phones.” Once you receive an SIP number, you would have to configure your phone with the right settings by entering the details given below under the account settings tab.
Different SIP phones, both soft and hardware, may require some of the following parameters:
Configuration:
- Display Name: Select any name
- Username: Your Buzport SIP number
- Authorization user: Your Buzport SIP number
- Password: SIP password is initially set to 123123, you can change it on Security Settings page
- Domain or Realm: sip.web3tel.com
- SIP proxy: sip.web3tel.com
- Outbound Proxy: sip.web3tel.com
- Register: Always
3 Ways To Use SIP With Your Buzport Account:
- Using SIP to make outbound calls to any destination around the world including mobile phones, landlines, softphones, etc.
Dial a number inside the SIP client (in the international format without any leading zeroes) and get connected right away. - Making outbound calls with SIP from your Buzport account on our website.
Select the SIP number under “My phones” and the number you want to call under “Destination.” Hit the call button. Your SIP-enable phone will start to ring instantly. When you pick up the call, you would be connected to the destination number within seconds. - For incoming calls, Buzport SIP number is reachable only within the Buzport network, it can be dialed only with Buzport service and is not accessible for calls from outside.
